A commitment towards carbon-neutral operations.
Computacenter is committed to taking strong actions in our shared goal of mitigating the effects of climate change. We acknowledge the role that business plays in safeguarding our shared environment which is why we have signed several international agreements to ensure transparent accountability on our emissions reduction pathway. Computacenter will reach Scope 1 & 2 Net Zero carbon emissions by 2022, five years ahead of previous target.
UNGC & UNSDGs
Computacenter has been a proud signatory of the UNGC since 2007. Three of the ten principles adopted by the agreement directly relate to the effects that businesses have on the environment. Our continued emissions reduction and greater environmental awareness is testament to our commitment in upholding these principles. Coupled with the UN SDG’s direct climate action, Computacenter’s sustainability agenda will ensure that we uphold our original pledge, provide an ongoing Communication on Progress (CoP), and continue working within our global communities to protect our planet and climate.
It is important to acknowledge that Net Zero is a means to achieving something much greater. At this crucial time, we are experiencing unprecedented changes to the world’s climate which in turn threatens our food, water, geography, and biosecurity. Computacenter has committed to using the SBTi standard for carbon reduction plans aligned to the Paris agreement. We have made an SBTi submission in Q1 2022 and the feedback will support our carbon reduction roadmap for the next few years. We expect to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) in 2022. We have a Net Zero (Scope 3) target by 2040 but we will aim to achieve this earlier, as the measurement standards for Scope 3 emissions and our corresponding roadmap become clearer in the next few years.
Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures
We support the aims of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in communicating the risks and opportunities arising from climate change. In accordance with the Financial Conduct Authority’s Policy Statement PS20/17, we are making disclosures consistent with the TCFD’s recommendations, with the aim of providing all of our stakeholders with useful information relating to climate-related risks and opportunities relevant to our business.
Industry Frameworks & Accreditations
EcoVadis is an overall sustainability framework selected by some of our customers, which we have also chosen to use as a key benchmark. Computacenter undertakes annual reviews with EcoVadis both at a Group level and in specific countries as required by customers. More information on sustainable practice accreditations can be found on the link below.
Our journey to Net Zero starts at home with direct action. Securing renewable energy for the future is the single biggest way we can reduce our carbon footprint across the Group. In 2020, Computacenter oversaw the largest commercial PV solar array installed in the UK. This provides over 25% of the energy consumed on-site and has created a proof of concept that we can extend to other locations. This year, our Integration Center in Kerpen, Germany, will receive a solar installation covering over 7500m² of roof space and carpark for on-site energy production and consumption. This will be completed by the end of March 2022.
Achievement of Carbon Net Zero (Scopes 1 & 2) in 2022 will be a major milestone, based on a number of years of carbon reduction efforts across the business. We will be one of the first companies in our industry to achieve this.
