The City of Wavre had a complex and heterogeneous hardware environment with stand-alone solutions for servers, storage and network and different consoles and dashboards for management and maintenance.
When this solution became end-of-life, the ICT department decided it was the ideal time to change to a fully integrated solution, which also included changing the old telephony solution to a full IP solution.
The idea was to deploy an integrated solution and centralize management of the different hardware parts and at the same time create an environment that was both flexible and scalable for the future.

Wavre, the capital of the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, extends over 40 square kilometers and has approximately 40,000 inhabitants. It is a major economic center of Wallonia, with its two business parks and numerous small businesses and shops.
HP servers & storage, Cisco network & IP telephony and VMware
Computacenter opted for a solution based on HP servers and storage, Cisco network switches and IP telephony and VMware software for virtualization.
This allowed a full integration of the entire hardware stack and 100 percent virtualization of the existing server park. The storage solution was upgraded to a total of about 3 terabytes. Since Cisco technology was used for both network and IP telephony, there were no compatibility issues during the deployment.
The project was conducted in phases to minimize downtime and keep the impact on day-to-day business as low as possible. The entire implementation took about 1.5 months.
In the last phase Computacenter planned training sessions for both the ICT department (management of the hardware environment) and the employees (IP telephony functionality).
