IT directors under pressure to deliver cost savings

Business executives' priorities are changing as companies look to get more from their IT investments, according to Gartner. The analyst firm said in a new report that chief executives will retain a "recession era mentality" for the next five years, and will insist that future IT investments result in cost savings.

IT managers consider cloud despite risks

IT professionals are not generally renowned for their recklessness, yet according to research conducted by trade association, ISACA, one in five of cloud users thinks that the risks of cloud computing outweigh the benefits. And, as further confirmation of the growing importance of cloud services, 33 percent of IT managers surveyed are already using cloud - a total that rises to 40 percent among UK organisations.

Tories advised to outsource back-office functions

The former head of the Office of Government Commerce has told the Conservative Party to outsource all of its back-office functions if it wins the general election. Sir Peter Gershon, who sits on the party's public sector productivity panel, said that the Tories should instigate the outsourcing within the first 18 months of government, and that the focus has to be on better management rather than IT, according to a report on news site Kable.
