Corporates and Government organisations throughout the UK will soon be able to ensure their mobile staff can communicate in real time and access company information on the move.
This is as a result of a partnership between Computacenter and Psion to help organisations successfully integrate mobile e-business devices into their overall infrastructure. It means that Psion's range of handheld devices will be sold and supported by Computacenter's value-added services including corporate strategy advice, integration and software provision.
The agreement positions Computacenter as the first choice for deployment of Psion devices within the corporate marketplace. This currently includes Psion's Series 5mx, Series 7, Revo and Revo Plus.
"The increase in the usage of mobile data devices, such as mobile phones and portable computers, has helped to improve the speed of business," said Trevor Pugsley, vendor alliances manager at Computacenter. "Consequently, there has been a fundamental change in the way companies operate with the emphasis now on getting the information to the user rather than the user to the information."
"Businesses have always wanted to get the right information to the right place at the right time, but it is only now that the technology, infrastructure and support capability are in place to allow this to happen," he continued. "By integrating Psion's products into our existing solutions, we're enabling Computacenter's customers to extend their systems beyond normal IT boundaries."
"It's all very well giving your staff handheld devices but you won't get maximum benefit unless they can link easily with the office. Its a bit like providing someone with a computer but not allowing them access to the internet - you do not allow the user to benefit from the full potential of the technology." said Nick Martin, director of corporate sales at Psion. "We want to offer large organisations the technology and solutions to enable them to improve communications with their mobile workforce. Computacenter's value-added integration services and unparalleled reputation are the ideal medium for us to reach that market."
