Computacenter wins top European Supply Chain Excellence Award 2000

28/11/00

Computacenter has won the 'FMCG and Capital Goods Distributor' of the year accolade at the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards. The ceremony, held at the Millennium Britannia Hotel, Mayfair on 16 November, acknowledged some of Europe's most capable supply chain operations.

The awards, organised by Logistics Europe in partnership with KPMG Consulting and Exel Logistics, are run annually and previous winners in this category include Pepsi-Cola International and Haagen-Dazs-Pillsbury. Computacenter faced stiff competition this year and was shortlisted with EMI Distribution (UK).

"It was an extremely challenging process,” confirms Heidi-Lynn Mitchell, who headed up the Computacenter team. "The judges themselves were logistics specialists and spent a day at Computacenter analysing our business supply chain strategies, reviewing performance criteria and objectives, and observing on-the-ground operations."

Nick Allen, editor of Logistics Europe, highlighted Computacenter's attention to detail. "What won the company this award was its management team's understanding of customer needs, and the way in which the company is able to control and process the configuration of product and software for the customer. Computacenter has given stock visibility to everyone from sales to purchasing, and has gone into meticulous detail on measuring key performance indicators and forecasts."

Nick Allen continues, "Computacenter's new supply chain premises in Hatfield have been designed to cope with a doubling of business, and the supply chain team has performed well in managing exponential growth over the last few years, while still achieving a very high level of service to customers. The Hatfield investment gives a clear indication as to the company's vision of offering enhanced services for its highly demanding customer base."

Computacenter's winning team is now determined to repeat their achievements in future years. "The rigorous awards process has been valuable in giving us an insight to our performance compared to other companies across Europe", comments John Joslin, Director of Supply Chain Services, Computacenter. "It helped us to focus on the detail of why and how we do things and challenge some of our assumptions in the light of the way business is evolving. We are delighted to have won this award and look forward to raising the standards even further next year."
