Computacenter Shared Services Factory Opens Gate to Savings

13/11/06

Computacenter Services today announces a new operating model for the future of IT service delivery that will significantly reduce client costs and increase satisfaction.  Developed to remove complexity and ensure best practice, the “Shared Services Factory” (SSF) has captured the key elements of the most successful projects and used them to create a flexible set of standards that can be applied consistently across relevant future initiatives.

Computacenter has invested £30m to create a library of re-usable tools based on its extensive experience of providing services to private and public sector organisations.

One organisation that has already benefited from this approach is the IT department at Northumberland County Council (NCC). The council was named “IT Department of the Year” in a prestigious national award after judges heard how the council had increased staff morale, improved IT performance levels and reduced its costs by £2m.

Peter Gallon, Head of IT for Northumberland County Council commented: “It is refreshing to work with a partner that doesn’t overcomplicate things for the sake of it and actively seeks out ways of reducing our costs, rather than resting on its laurels. Computacenter Services has become an integral part of our team and helped the department to provide a consistently high level of service in a very demanding environment.”

By delivering services through shared resources and reference architectures,  Computacenter Services is able to ensure rapid and consistent delivery of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) based services in a systematic way.

In addition to existing service desks in the UK and Germany, a new multi-lingual, 200-seat facility has been opened in Barcelona, Spain.

The ability to share successful approaches across the organisation and its clients has been supported by a significant investment in new processes, technology and staff training. Under the Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE) regulations Computacenter Services has taken on more than 1,700 specialist IT staff in the past five years. Staff retention following these transfers is in the region of 95%, well above the industry average.

Simon Walsh, Computacenter Services Managing Director said: “According to Morgan Chambers, Europe’s leading sourcing advisory firm, there are over 200 outsourcing contracts that will be up for renewal in the next 2 years, around 60% of the market. Our ability to reduce customer cost, streamline best practice service delivery and continuously advance the service, sets us apart from the competition and puts us in a very strong position to grow our share of the services market.”
