rugby Match Statistics - Making the Complex Simple

24/01/04
Computacenter, the official data and statistics partner of the RBS 6 Nations Championship continues to expand and improve upon their highly successful partnership with the greatest annual rugby tournament in the world.

Since 2000 Computacenter has endeavoured to provide the most comprehensive and technologically advanced rugby union statistics service in the game. For the 2005 RBS 6 Nations Championship, Computacenter will be working with the most up to date TV graphics technology available. The official broadcasters (including BBC, France Television, RTE and La7) will all benefit from graphics generated by VizRT machines which provide a greatly enhanced visual graphics presentation.

Carl Hicks, BBC Sport Rugby Editor commented “in an intense and time critical environment Computacenter continues to deliver an efficient and professional statistics service which helps to increase our viewers’ enjoyment and understanding of the game.”

As part of Computacenter’s continuous effort to improve the timely delivery of statistics, an xml data feed will be made available to key website partners allowing them to integrate the stats into their sites with minimum delay. In addition a live data feed of match statistics will be provided to the BBC interactive rugby application, allowing fans at home to view real time stats simply by pressing the red button.

Computacenter personnel will be present at all RBS 6 Nations matches, distributing post match statistics and analysis to all media representatives immediately after the game. Statistics will also be emailed to participating unions and team coaches as well as to over 300 journalists from the local, national and European press.

The compilation of statistics is a complex process. By making the complex simple, Computacenter is constantly helping to enhance the analysis of International rugby union.
