Computacenter
brings together golfing enthusiasts
with expert players
The IT services company is the latest addition to the European Challenge Tour’s schedule of title sponsors for 2004, and will be the prime partner for the inaugural Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open.
The Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open will take place at Donnington Grove Country Club from 14 – 17 October. It will be the penultimate event of the 2004 Challenge Tour season, which should make for some exciting moments as the players vie for a place in the top 45 to guarantee a place at the Bouyges Telecom Grand Final the following week.
Computacenter will also be sponsoring the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open Pro-Am on 13 October, which will bring together more than 40 of its customers and staff with players from the tournament.
Mike Norris, Chief Executive of Hatfield-based Computacenter, said: “Golf is a popular sport and past-time among our customers and staff, and this event enables us to thank them for their ongoing support and loyalty.”
Since its birth in 1987, the European Challenge Tour has developed into a proven training ground, where champions-in-waiting can hone their skills. Widely regarded as a valuable stepping-stone onto the prestigious European Tour, the Challenge Tour tests ability and character to the limit with only the top 15 players going through to the 2005 European Tour.
Tom Cowgill, a Director of Sports Masters International, which is promoting the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open, was delighted to welcome Computacenter as title sponsor. “I congratulate Computacenter for its involvement in the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open,” said Cowgill. “To find such a high-quality sponsor is a great coup for the tournament. I’m sure that Computacenter and its guests will have a fantastic Pro-Am day, at which they will be able to play alongside some of golf’s stars of the future.”
Alain de Soultrait, Director of the European Challenge Tour, echoed those sentiments, adding: “The Challenge Tour is delighted to welcome Computacenter onto the 2004 schedule. We hope that the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open produces the excitement that we have come to expect from the Challenge Tour players, and that our new relationship can continue into the future.”
The tournament - which has a total prize fund of more than £75,000 - and the Pro-Am event, will be played in the beautiful surroundings of the Donnington Grove Country Club. Among the players taking part in the Pro-Am event will be up-and-coming English player Sam Walker and seasoned professional Mark Mouland.
“The Pro-Am event enables amateur golfers to gain expertise and experience with some of the greatest players in Europe, and improve their game as a result,” added Norris. “We are delighted to sponsor this first English Challenge Open, which will help raise the profile of the Challenge Tour in the UK and the country’s new golfing talent.”
