Computacenter rises to the challenge in aid of the NSPCC
Employees from Hatfield-based Computacenter will soon be stepping away from their desks, taking off their suits and throwing down their briefcases to participate in the 4th annual Microsoft Challengers Trophy, Europe’s largest inter-company team-building event, in aid of the NSPCC.
June will see Computacenter representatives compete against more than 100 teams from over 50 UK companies in the Isle of Wight, in an attempt to win the coveted Microsoft Challengers Trophy, and to help raise an estimated £400,000 for the children’s charity.
Teams taking part in the three day and four-night challenge will face a series of top secret challenges, which may include tasks such as canoeing, abseiling, mountain biking and code cracking. All tasks are designed to test both physical and mental strength, whilst developing team spirit.
Computacenter’s team captain Mike O'Brien said: “The team expects the Microsoft Challengers Trophy to push us to our physical and mental limits. It will enable us to share experiences we wouldn’t get from our normal working environment, while pitting our skills against key competitors and the big names in business.”
“We’re all really looking forward to the experience. It’s particularly rewarding knowing that through our participation in the event, and by aiming to raise our target of £5,000 we’re able to help the NSPCC achieve their aim to end cruelty to children.”
NSPCC Chief Executive, Mary Marsh, said: “This year marks 10 years of Microsoft’s support for the NSPCC and as part of the celebrations it would be wonderful to see all the teams working together to produce a record breaking fundraising result. In 2003, the Microsoft Challengers Trophy raised over £350,000 for the NSPCC, and this year we hope to see that figure reach £400,000.
“The NSPCC runs 180 projects across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, all working towards our aim of ending cruelty to children. None of this work would be possible without the support of the public and companies like Computacenter.”
