RDC wins First Class Award from Royal Mail
End-of-life IT asset management company RDC are delighted to have received ‘The Sustainable Development’ award as part of Royal Mail’s First Class Supplier Programme. The award looks at the impact a supplier’s industry is having on our planet and the actions they are taking to reduce the effects of their products and services on the environment.
With over 60 of Royal Mail’s suppliers wishing to be considered for this award, RDC had to demonstrate very high levels of commitment and integration of sustainable development principles into business processes. Charles Tucker Head of Environment at Royal Mail was particularly impressed with “the pioneering stance RDC has developed in the IT recycling industry” and acknowledged that “they were the first UK IT recycler to achieve zero landfill of IT waste”.
RDC have worked with Royal Mail since 1998 helping to manage their IT environment. Renewing about one-third of its desktops each year (circa 15,000), RDC identify which can be upgraded for re-use internally and manage the disposal of the rest. In real terms this equates to one-third being returned to Royal Mail, one-third sold to the second-hand user market and the remainder broken down. Overall Managing IT assets in this way enabled Royal Mail to turn disposals from an overhead into a revenue stream.
Gerry Hackett RDC’s Managing Director comments, “This recognition from Royal Mail of the importance of sustainable development underpinning all our business processes and client services is fantastic. Royal Mail demonstrate how we work with our clients to manage all risks effectively in compliance with all UK and EC legislation and to deliver maximum value from their end-of-life IT assets. At RDC we strive to be at the forefront in ensuring both we and our clients meet and exceed social and environmental responsibilities and legislative requirements.”
