Abbey has appointed Computacenter plc to manage its desktop infrastructure. The five-year contract, which replaces a number of contracts with several suppliers, commences on 1 September 2003 and is valued at £70 million.

The contract will produce attractive benefits for Abbey in three areas:

Computacenter will ensure the ongoing efficiency of Abbey’s desktop services infrastructure. It will also evaluate new desktop-related products and provide advice and guidance on how integration with existing desktop infrastructure can be best achieved.

Simon Walsh, Director of Financial Services at Computacenter, said: “By selectively outsourcing areas of their IT infrastructure, companies are able to reduce the costs and complexities associated with managing these systems. During the tender process, we demonstrated to Abbey that they could make considerable cost savings during the term of the contract, whilst continuing to receive the highest services levels. This is a major services win for Computacenter and we are delighted that Abbey has chosen us to design, implement and manage their IT infrastructure”.

Yasmin Jetha, IT Director at Abbey said: “This new contract represents both a continuation and a significant extension of an existing relationship between Abbey and Computacenter. The desktop managed service proposition provided by Computacenter will enable Abbey to become more efficient whilst also increasing flexibility to meet future business needs”.
