Computacenter delivers IT supplies and services to Lloyd's Insurance Market
Through CITEDIRECT, Computacenter will provide companies with access to more than 20,000 products, from laptops and handhelds to servers and storage solutions, plus complementary IT services.
The portal, which is also available to organisations affiliated to Baltic Exchange and the British Insurance Brokers' Association, is the brainchild of IT aggregator, IT Direct. Bob Blatchford, Managing Director of IT Direct, commented: "Every time a company buys a PC or server it incurs purchasing costs. By web-enabling procurement, businesses can reduce these costs and have greater control over their IT purchasing.
"Computacenter's expertise and multi-vendor relationships mean it is well placed to meet the existing and future IT needs of both markets. We are delighted to have the company on board as the premier IT partner for CITEDIRECT."
The portal will be directly integrated with Computacenter's back office systems, allowing orders to be processed much more efficiently. CITEDIRECT will be available to 500 companies through a secure browser-based system, which goes live with pilot users on 15 April.
Joe Edwards, Computacenter's Director for the Retail Finance Sector, commented: "The Lloyd's market has highly sophisticated IT requirements and is becoming increasingly web-enabled. The market needs access to the latest technology options at a price they can afford, if they are to maintain competitive advantage. By purchasing through
CITEDIRECT, users will be able to leverage the buying power of the community and enjoy improved pricing.
"CITEDIRECT will provide a gateway to Computacenter's comprehensive choice of technology products and services, and will help ease the IT decision-making process by offering a one-stop shop for technology."
The systems that power CITEDIRECT were developed by Biomni, which is a joint venture between Computacenter and Dealogic Limited. Angus Gregory, Chief Executive of Biomni, added: "Biomni and Computacenter have collaborated on various projects, including the online Government purchasing site, GCAT. Both companies have extensive experience in providing eprocurement solutions and we expect the Lloyd's market and the Baltic Exchange to benefit considerably from the creation of CITEDIRECT."
