Computacenter and BT announce desktop IT partnership
BT and Computacenter have signed a five-year agreement to provide support and related services for approximately 100,000 BT desktop users across the country. This is Computacenter's largest ever services contract, estimated to generate an initial services revenue of approximately £150million for the company over the five years.
Under the agreement, both organisations will be jointly responsible for the installation and management of desktop IT for BT in the UK. Computacenter's expertise in IT service delivery will combine with BT's strength in network and remote management to provide a seamless service to end-users. In addition to this contract, BT has extended its technology supply agreement with Computacenter for a corresponding period.
Mike Norris, chief executive for Computacenter, said: "The partnership model we have developed with BT is increasingly being seen as the most cost-effective way for businesses to reduce the burden of managing their IT infrastructure. This agreement underlines our position as one of the leading providers of IT services in the UK.
Computacenter and BT Group have a very strong working relationship dating back more than ten years. BT Group is a valued customer and we welcome the opportunities, both immediate and long-term, that this partnership will bring."
The contract includes the transfer of 362 BT Group staff to Computacenter under TUPE regulations. This deal and associated transfer has the support of the CWU (Communications Workers Union).
The two companies intend to extend their partnership model to the external marketplace and are currently developing joint technology solutions for BT Retail's extensive customer base. Craig Rowland, director of Business Information Systems for BT Group, said:
"By partnering with Computacenter to jointly manage our internal desktop, we will be able to realise significant cost savings and improve the service to end users. Computacenter has the proven scalability and capability to work with us on creating new customer services. Having created the industry benchmark for the management of our own desktop, we look forward to extending this partnership beyond BT's own internal needs, to bring new innovative desktop management solutions to our business customers."

With the help of Computacenter and the rollout of a pioneering workforce management solution, NTL has improved the efficiency of its engineers, reduced overheads and improved customer service.
