The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Trust safeguards compliance with Software Asset Management
Customer challenge
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn (QEHKL) NHS Trust is responsible for managing a 515-bed hospital that serves a population of 220,000. Traditionally, each department within the trust had handled its own software requirements and licences. To reduce costs and ensure compliance the trust took the decision to centralise licence management, but it needed a partner with experience to assist.
Computacenter solution
By partnering with Computacenter, QEHKL NHS Trust was able to undertake an extensive software asset appraisal across 1,800 desktops and 100 servers. Using Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), the appraisal reconciled licensing entitlements for a number of different software packages against actual deployment to highlight any surpluses or shortages.
Results
QEHKL NHS Trust now has an accurate baseline for its licensing entitlements and deployments, which will enable it to centralise software procurement and asset management as well as maintaining compliance. In addition to eliminating under and over-utilisation, the trust now has the visibility it needs to reharvest software from devices when staff leave, which reduces expenditure. By completing the appraisal, the trust is also eligible for Connecting for Health's APA framework agreement, which means it can access centrally funded licences for server software.
