has the facilities to deliver the equipment configured according
to the customer's needs and specifications so that once it is plugged
in it is ready for use.
 Computacenter's
Configuration facility offers a value added service for pre-configuring
desktops, laptops and servers prior to delivery to customers by
installing and configuring applications and operating system software.
Our methodology and advanced configuration processes ensure that
any order of any size will be processed with high levels of consistency
and quality.
Depending on the hardware, software, number of machines, changes
in software releases, etc., there are different ways to configure
an order, with varying benefits.
Our professional team helps the customer choose the best option
according to the volume of machines to configure and the complexity
of the configuration, but leave the final decision to the customer.
Image Replication
One option is to install a machine as a master and then replicate
the image to all of the other machines. This is a fast method, and suitable
for small unit numbers to very large-scale projects but it is only possible
if each machine has the same hardware specifications. The configuration
executed by Computacenter adds no more than 1 day to the delivery process.
An image containing all the software, applications and parameters
requested by the customer is copied on to each machine to be delivered.
Customers who have a pre-defined requirement can either set up
their own master, or can request an image development service from
Computacenter's Infrastructure Services Team.
Unattended
Installation
Another option is "Unattended Installation". These configurations
are done automatically with no human intervention. This method is not
as quick as image replication but can be used if the customer needs to
configure different kinds of machines with different configuration settings
according to the activity of each end-user (an accounting user does not
need the same IT environment as an account manager!). The customer provides
a list with the specifications of each machine (the hardware and software,
the connections, the parameters, etc.). Those parameters are fed into
a database, which enables a fully automated configuration.
Another service offered by the Computacenter's Integration Center
is the Asset Tagging. Computacenter provides its customers with
an Asset List of all the machines delivered. The customer is then
able to track the location, the serial number and the type of each
machine.
The Integration Center can also be involved in the hardware preparation
of servers, building and pre-cabling of racks, and any other hardware
related services. Computacenter Account Managers and Sales Support
Teams will be pleased to process any requests.
