Many organisations are long overdue for an overhaul of their IT infrastructure. For many, the last time systems were fully refreshed was in 1999 amid the global rush for Y2K compliance. And although the traditional three-year upgrade cycle would suggest that most companies’ systems were due for another overhaul in 2002, back then - amid a global economic downturn - cost-cutting was the order of the day.
Today, however, there are compelling business arguments that the time is right for an infrastructure refreshment. Some operating systems are no longer being supported by vendors; IT budgets are on the increase; and companies are becoming aware that a refreshed infrastructure offers organisations the potential for dramatic improvements in terms of performance, management, flexibility, security and reduced running costs.
Organisations need to be effective in planning and implementing any new infrastructure, which is where an experienced specialist like Computacenter can help. But for those that get it right, a new infrastructure can mean that managing and supporting IT systems becomes far easier and less costly; upgrading can be done remotely; and more flexible and collaborative ways of working can be adopted.
