It is now commonplace for organisations to look to technology to help manage the performance and reliability of their infrastructure. However, creating an environment where technology manages technology requires extensive IT integration skills.

Places for People Group, which has over 1,000 IT users at 80 sites throughout the UK, found that its legacy infrastructure meant that support calls were becoming more frequent. The company decided on an entire hardware and software refresh that would enable it to implement a standardised IT environment at all of its sites, and provide remote support to users.

Since the rollout of the new infrastructure, implemented with the help of Computacenter, Places for People has seen multiple benefits. It now has a more stable and manageable platform and can fix more problems remotely. The email backup process has been speeded up, and the email system is more stable. And the number of calls to the helpdesk has fallen by 18 per cent, with associated cost and efficiency benefits for the organisation as a whole. Thanks to the new infrastructure, the IT department can provide a better service to its internal customers, which increases their productivity and service levels to their customers.
