Work patterns

“The first thing to do is examine users’ current
work patterns”

Once your organisation has made the decision to enable staff to work remotely, the IT department faces a number of distinct challenges. To start with, remote workers come in a number of shapes and sizes, from the traditional ‘road warriors’, to occasional teleworkers, to field engineers, to the still small but growing number of employees who work primarily from home and need reliable, fast, secure, always-on access to central company systems and support. It is undoubtedly this last group that presents the biggest challenge for IT but the company of the future is likely to have a mix of some or all of these types of remote worker, plus traditional office-based staff.

With the remote-working field in its infancy, and the many issues – from security to support - that this method of working raises, it is crucial to work with technology and service providers that already have experience in this area.
